Ma Ly says the name of the action of hammering on clay with a long stick called gai pang u (lit. Stick to hammer clay). The potter would kneel on the floor and smash the stick on the clay to crush it. Since 1986, the potter pounds the clay ina helmet instead of hammering it on the floor.

Ma Ly nói tên của hành động đập vào đất sét bằng một cây gậy dài gọi là gai păng u (nghĩa đen là Dính vào giã đất sét). Người thợ gốm sẽ quỳ xuống sàn và đập chiếc gậy vào đất sét để nghiền nát nó. Kể từ năm 1986, người thợ gốm đã giã đất sét vào mũ thay vì đập xuống sàn.
