Name of the action of smoothing the inside of the pot in Vietnamese (Thanh Hà village)

Nguyễn Thị Thủy says the name of the second phase of the making process : smoothing the inside of the pots. This step is called “làm đẹp” (lit. make beautiful). The worker spreads sand on her wooden base and places a pot on it. The sand prevents the pot from sticking to the base. She then uses the outer surface of a seashell to rub the inside of the pot. This action opens the walls of the pot slightly, but mainly smooths the inside surface.
