Name of the action of smoothing the outside of pottery in Vietnamese (Quê An village)

Võ Thị Sương says the name of the action of smoothing the outside of the pot after it has been scraped. This action is called “lặng”. The potter moistens the surface of the pots by hand. She then uses an old circle of bamboo with blunt edges to rub the walls of the pot to smooth the surface. The water re-moistens the walls. The clay particles on the surface become mobile again and settle into the small cavity created by the scraping.
