This is a hand-carved wooden board used for embossing paper. This pattern is called "shō-chiku-bai", which refers to the patterns of pine, bamboo, and plum trees. The year this board was carved (September Shōwa 36 (1961), as well as the location where the motif orginated from, which tended to be castles, nobles homes, and tea rooms
