This is a view of the clay extraction site. The potter buys the clay from the landowner and digs it out of the rice fields. In the past, they used to use a bamboo carrying pole (called a "gánh") to carry the clay back on their shoulders. Nowadays, they hire a truck every few years and bring back a large quantity in one go.
