To fuel the fire, potters in Thanh Hà village use firewood of any kind. They also use home-made blocks of coal that they insert between the pots inside the kiln during firing. The coal is made using salvaged charcoal mixed with water, spread inside moulds and let to dry in the sun (on the road near the river) to form small blocks of coal around 1.5x10x20cm.
