Nafana mat weaver (deŋglɛ tinfun) Alexander Owusu finishes the foundational pass in weaving a raffia mat (dɛŋglɛ). He uses his thumbs to hold in place a weft strand that he has just folded into place, positioning it perpendicular to the two warp strands that are wrapped on his left forefinger, their layers separated. The fold visible at the tip of his right thumb adds to the mat's vertical selvage edge. The long end of the weft strand is draped over his left hand. Description reference: Table 2, No. 7 in "Making of a Raffia Palm Mat (Dɛŋglɛ), Sabiye, Banda District, Bono Region, Ghana." Sabiye, Banda District, Ghana.
