Nafana mat weaver Alexander Owusu finishes the foundational pass in weaving a raffia mat (dɛŋglɛ). He holds a leftward warp strand that he has just folded inward in place with his left thumb. Layered weft strands extend to the left and a warp strand is wrapped over his left forefinger. To the right, the folded edge of the weft strand adds to the mat's vertical selvage. Description reference: Table 2, No. 3 in "Making of a Raffia Palm Mat (Dɛŋglɛ), Sabiye, Banda District, Bono Region, Ghana." Sabiye, Banda District, Ghana.
