The woven end of row one (exa nyɛ nyɛ) of a basketry fish trap (exa) body has been finished with a square knot. The knot secures two bamboo (pamplo ti) sticks, which lend strength to the edge of the trap body. The individual sticks that make up the trap body are separated from one another with two tight twists of rope (adzɔ ƒoƒo). The green outer surface (exodermis) visible on the trimmed bamboo sticks will be systematically turned to face the inside of the trap body before additional rows are woven.
