Firing pottery in Thanh Hà village : closed kiln

When the firing is over, the doors of the fire are closed by metalic sheets and the whole thing is let to cool down for at least one night. In front of the kiln’s door, 3 insence sticks can be seen. They have been burnt on the eve of the 1st of the month (lunar calendar). It is a regional tradition that on the eve of the 1st and the 15th of each month of the lunar calendar, each household has to pray in the house and burn three incense stick in the house and the work spaces. For potters, this means the following locations: the workshop, in front of the kiln and on the storage pile of clay.
