Forming the body of a kettle by scraping (preforming on leather-hard clay) in Quế An village

The potter, Võ Thị Sương, has placed the kettle (ấm) on the turntable and is using a ring of bamboo (cái khót) to scrape the inside of the pot. This action takes out clay to make the wall thinner. On this picture, we can see how the potter sets up her workspace. On her left are the scrapers and the pots that she will scrape, on her right are the not yet scraped pots, a bowl with water and a bassin with the clay that she scraped out. On the floor is the clay that she took out but is still soft enough to be used to make the spouts and/or secure the junction of the handle.
