Photograph of kabuki actor Senjaku Nakamura wearing a paper costume made by Mashiko Endō. This garment was worn by Nakamura Senjaku in August 1987 while performing the role of the heir/successor (of the Umenaga family), Bunzou Umenaga (惣領梅永文蔵), in Keisei HotokenŌhara (けいせい仏の原), during the 6th Regular Performance of Chikamatsuza (近松座第六回定期公演). Chikamatsuza is a project launched by Sakata Tōjūrō IV (四代目坂田藤十郎) in 1981 with the aim of presenting one or two works by dramatist Monzaemon Chikamatsu (1653-1725) each year. This paper kimono was made by Mashiko Endō, out of paper that she made. It was then dyed and painted by other professionals related to the kabuki industry
