Kernel used to polish pottery in in Krăngọ village 2/2

The kernel used by the potter is called plai kang (where plai means fruit). However, even with the Vietnamese name (hạt tràm) we could not find to which fruit this name refers. These kernel are found only in the deep forest. Usually people going there for other business would bring her back what they can find. This kernel has been used a lot and presents cracks on its surface. The kernel is used to polish the pots. The action of polishing is called hing in Koho language. There are no replacement for that tool. The potter says that she cannot use stones that would not be smooth enough. She could use kernel from another fruit, called Cẩm Lai in Vietnamese, but the kernel is too small. The seed inside the kernel has many medicinal uses. It is then grated into powder and used for example for cattle eye disease or nipple cracks while breastfeeding. When people need the seed, they come to Ma Liy to ask she has a broken kernel to give them.
