(Above) A pair of adjustable calipers made from two boat-building staples embedded into a wooden handle, used for spiling of hull timbers, especially planking; (Below) a fixed-space gauge made from a boat building nailed used for marking out plank-edge recess joints on the hull planking, and occasionally for spiling.
