Monks at Tōdaiji temple making a paper belt by attaching sheets of wrinkled paper (momigami) together to create the paper belt (kōnen obi, or "next-year obi") that is worn over the paper kimono at Tōdaiji. This is done by a group of people. It is folded in half by a group of 2-4 people, and made to be worn the following year. Sheets are attached together using rice glue, then the belt is folded, beaten with the back of a fist, then laid flat under a large piece of wood for drying and flattening
