Temporality
The polishing of the upper part of the pot takes place when the upper part of the pot is dry enough to be manipulated without being distorted but before it is too dry. This means it is right before the forming of the bottom of the pot (The bottom of the cooking pot is still flat).
Intent
It is used to compact the surface, fill the pores and smooth out the irregularities of the surface. It produces a smooth but regularly striped surface.
