Preforming on leather hard clay of the bottom of a small cooking pot in Ki’Nonh village 1/4

After the pot is dry enough to be handled without losing their shape, the form has to be perfected. The potter Bling Thị Thuáh stars by scraping the outside of the pot, using a tool made out of a slice of bamboo with both ends attached together to form a circle, called “kơté”. She first scraps the sides of the bottom, taking out clay to round the edges, then the center. This action makes the bottom thinner and round. This is the first step, where the potter only roughly rounds the bottom. After that, she will scrape the inside and then come back on the outside to regularise the shape. This step can also be done with the potter sitting on the floor with the pot on her lap.
