Preparing clay elements in Thanh Hà village 2/8 : rolling the clay

Nguyễn Thị Bê as used the arched tool (front of the picture, on the pile of clay.) to take out a large piece of clay. She uses both hands to roll it on the board. She uses several actions to create a coil 50cm long for 6-7cm diameter that she will place down on a board on the floor, under her working board. While she is preparing the coil, Nguyễn Thị Bê is also using her right foot to set in motion the wheel on which Nguyễn Thị Thủy is making pots. This requires an important coordination that few people in the village master. On this picture, Nguyễn Thị Bê pauses the coil she is making to hold on her working board with both hands to put more force on the wheel with her foot. She also stops when the pot is done, to take it off the wheel to dry in the courtyard.
