Nguyễn Thị Thủy has piled up large blocks of clay on large plastic bags laid on the floor. When two or three of these are piled up, they are repetitively cut into fine messy slices with the traditional spade, called "theo". After that, she will steps heavily on the clay to compress it and smooth it out. The whole process will be repeated three times to ensure it is smooth enough to worked with.
