A builder uses bark fibre to tie the ends of two long wood poles that will be used as roof supports. The ends of the poles have been cut on an angle and a deep notch cut into the wood a short distance from its end. The bark fibre tie cinches the poles together at the notch point. The tied end of the poles will be placed over the roof joist, with the poles extending downward on the front and back sides of the roof as support for a thatch layer.
