Arrayed around the feet of Ewe fisherman Maxwell Gbadago are materials and tools used to make rope (adzɔ ƒoƒo). Tightly twisted vine (adzɔ) bundles (bottom left) will be unbundled and pounded using the wooden mallet (ɛka ƒoƒo) that rests against a long log on which the vine will be pounded. Several bundles of loosely coiled finished rope lie on the ground nearby (upper right). Akanyakrom, Banda District, Ghana.
