Roughing out a miniature basin (chàu) in Phù Mỹ village 2/2 : roughing out the shape

Bùi Thị Lệ sits in front of her wheel with a lump of clay centered on it. She has used a wet cloth to create a regular rounded shape on top of the lump of clay. She now accentuate the pressure of the tip of her fingers. Doing so, her right thumb is inserted in the center of the lump of clay, while the tip of her index and middle fingers create a clear groove signaling the bottom of the rough out on the lump of clay and creating the curve of the outside wall of the pot.
