Roughing out pots in Thanh Hà village : Coiling 4/4

The coils have been prepared by the assistant and Nguyễn Thị Thủy has already placed a patty on the wheel while it is not moving. She now presses the coil on top of it with her left hand. While she presses, she also pushes back to turn the wheel (clockwise) and then presses the next section of the coil with the same movement. Her right hand holds the other end of the coil. She repeats this action until the coil is coil up on all its length. For small size pots, she only uses one coil. for bigger ones, she uses two or three coils. The wheel is only set in motion from the next step of the process which consists of joining the coil together.
