There is no trace of the coils on the outside of the rough out. While Nguyễn Thị Bê is keeping the wheel in motion with her right foot, Nguyễn Thị Thủy now places her cloth on top of the rough out and pushes in the centre of the form to open it and create the hollow shape of the rough out. Doing so, she pushes down the clay making the whole shape shorter but the walls thicker, especially on the top.
