Ma Ly has created a cylinder of clay, placed it on a stool and insert her thumbs in the centre. As she turns around the stand, she presses the edges of the lump of clay between her thumbs and fingers to compact the clay and enlarge the opening. Doing so, she carefully presses her thumbs down to create the base of the pot and gather the rest of the clay in a large but compressed roll that will form the walls. She has left in the center a cyinder of clay that she will just take off later on.
