Sieving charcoal from the pottery kiln in Phù Mỹ village

During the firing, the charcoal and ashes from the kiln has to be taken out to make space for the newly added fuel. The next day, Nguyễn Thị Phương uses a rattan sieve to sift the charcoal. Both the charcoal and the ashes will be used for other purpose : The ashes are used as a cover during the next firing while the charcoal can be used for many other purpose or even to sell.
