Smoothing the outer surface of the pot with a metalic circle (vòng) in Thanh Hà village : effect

When shaving the outside of the pot with a metalic tool called cái vòng, Nguyễn Thị Thủy has created striations in the surface. To smooth it, she takes the thicker cái vòng and presses it on the surface of the pot, from top to mid-pot’s height, while the wheel is still running. With the thicker edge, this tool does not cut off the clay, but compresses it, filling the holes and striations on the surface and creates a smooth and almost shiny surface.
