The Opo dwelling can be said to be an externalised house, as among the neighbouring Komo. The open space of the compound (pätärje) contains both the bedrooms (kuu) and the activity areas necessary for domestic life. In this case, in front of the main hut (ku opo), where the couple's bedroom is located, along with the beer containers and the grinding stone, we can see the outdoor area where the house hearth (säwuxii or pätäd'aam) is placed. The hearth where the sauce and coffee are cooked is on the left, the hearth for coking porridge, meat and fish, on top of Nuer-style clay andirons (calle kotolok in Opo).
