Ewe fisherman Dzobo Reuben sits on the end of a log that he uses an anvil as he trims the bamboo (pamplo ti) sticks of a woven tongue (exa woade), which will be inserted into the body of a basketry fish trap (exa). He position a cutlass (ɛyi) held in his left hand over the tongue's stick ends, preparing to deliver a blow to the cutlass blade with the piece of wood he holds in his right hand. The tongue lies folded in half in order to create symmetry as he trims the sticks at an angle to the last row of weaving. Akanyakrom, Banda District, Ghana.
