The western entrance to the Great Enclosure was restored in 1995. This restoration project is considered as one of the major post-colonial (from April 1980 - present) restoration projects to be undertaken at Great Zimbabwe so far. Leading the restoration, were stonemasons such as Leonard Vengai Mugabe, interviewed in this project. The majority of other stonemasons and their assistants who participated in this restoration project have died.
