After adding the last coil on the rim of the rough out, Nguyễn Thị Phương has used a wet cloth (cái vải) and the kinetic energy of her wheel to smooth and regularise the edge of the rough out. Now, holding the wet cloth between her thumb and forefinger, she bends it slightly outwards and uses the pressure of her finger to create the rim of the pot, the shape of which will defer, depending on the type of pot.
