Basketry : demonstration of preparing material

Ngân and Cécile are interviewing Y Ghăm Kmăn on the process to make baskets. While asking question, Yo Khoanh brings a piece of bamboo for the demonstration. Y Ghăm Kmăn starts by scraping the outside of the bamboo to make it smooth, using a knife called 'peh'. Then, he takes a small axe called 'wieh' to slice the bamboo into really thin pieces. Note: the type of bamboo (cây tre) used on this video is not the usual bamboo (lô ô). There is no difference in the making, but because cây tre is more rigid, the baset made out of it would break too easily.
