Basketry : demonstration of weaving the bottom of a sah rang (in miniature)

Ngân and Cécile are interviewing Y Ghăm Kmăn on the process to make baskets. While asking question, Y Ghăm Kmăn has sliced a piece of bamboo into thin pieces. He now starts twining them to make the structure bottom of the basket. Once the structure his ready, he weaves some thinner slices around. Then, he takes a new piece of bamboo from which he carves out two flat slices with two pointy ends. He inserts them diagonally in the bottom of the basket. These will serve as support to keep the bottom flat. Note: the type of bamboo (cây tre) used on this video is not the usual bamboo (lô ô). There is no difference in the making, but because cây tre is more rigid, the baset made out of it would break too easily.
