Seated on a stool behind a long log, Ewe fishermen Maxwell Gbadago (left) demonstrates how to make rope (adzɔ ƒoƒo) from dried vines (adzɔ). He uses a wooden mallet (ɛka ƒoƒo) to pound previously twisted and dried vine to make it pliable. Meanwhile, Dzobo Sebastian (right) uses a cutlass (ɛyi) to fashion a mallet from a length of wood, which he will use to pound vine in rope making. A blue fishing net lies folded on the ground behind them. As they work, Maxwell Gbadago explains in English how they test the rope to see if it is processed properly and talks about the challenges of doing the work, Akanyakrom, Banda District, Ghana.
