Making tools in Kon Tơ Xing village : making the scraper, kong

To scrape the inside and outside of the pots, the potters use a ring made of a thin slice of bamboo of which both ends are tied together, called kong. The action of scraping is called “khôi”. To make the tool, Y Gah uses a knife called tơgăk, she slices a piece of bamboo to make them into flexible slices of bamboo around 300x10x1mm. She scrapes it until it is flexible enough to be shaped in circle. Then, she attaches both ends together with a string.
