Preforming on leather hard clay in Ki’Nonh village : Scraping the inside of the pot

Potter Bling Thị Thuáh gives instructions to Hốih Tiến tending to the fire. As she watch over the process, the potter also shapes the pots that she had made the previous day. The pot have now a leather hard consistancy and can be manipulated without losing shape. With her right hand inside of the pot, the potter uses a tool made out of a slice of bamboo with both ends attached together to form a circle, called “kơté”, to scrape the inside. Her left hand is on the outside to feel the thickness of the walls. With this action, she takes out clay to thin out the walls and make the pot lighter. This also helps to round a bit the walls. When she is done, she turns the pot over and starts scraping the outside to make the bottom also round.
