Preforming on leather hard clay of a small cooking pot in Ki‘Nonh village

The pots have dry the whole night over the kitchen fire. They are now dry enough to be handled without losing their shape. The potter Bling Thị Thuáh can now perfect the shape, using a tool made out of a slice of bamboo with both ends attached together to form a circle, called “kơté”. She stars by scraping the outside of the pot : first the sides of the bottom, taking out clay to round the edges, then the center. This action makes the bottom thinner and round. When the bottom is roughly round, she takes the pot on her lap and scrapes the inside. Finally, she come back on the outside to regularise the shape.
