Preparing the structure to fire pottery in Buôn Trấp village

The firing is done in an open fire, in the courtyard of the house. H’Loan Bkrong first spreads a thick layer of rice husk on the floor over a surface of 80x80cm. Then, she places dried bamboos on top of it to form a platform on which she places to potteries to be fired. In the meantime, H’Lân Êban prepares a branch from a banana tree (mtai) that she tapers to be used later on. She then joins H’Loan Bkrong to help her. Then, they organise bamboo pieces in a teepee shape around the platform until the pots can barely be seen inside. When everything is ready, they light up the fire by placing a lit piece of wood with others on the rice husk.
