Roughing out and preforming on wet clay for the lids in Quế An village

To rough out the lids, Võ Thị Sương uses the same techniques but without making the bottom: she presses the coils directly on the turntable. The diameter of the rough out is significantly smaller, the height is also shorter. Once the rough out is made, the potter smoothes the edge with a piece of fabric and then enlarge the diameter, forming a kind of plate. Finally, she takes a wire and passes it under the preform to separate it from the turntable. The forming of the lid is the same for cooking pots and kettle.
