Shaping a bowl/lid in Kon Tơ Xing village 1/2 : Shaping by pressing

The potter Y Gah has just prepared the clay and gathers it and gather it to form a compact cylinder. For the bowl with a foot, that she intends to do, she pushes the clay up to make the bottom thinner than the top, so that when she starts thr rough out, the initial cylinder has the shape of a mushroom. Then, she inserts her thumbs in the middle and presses the edges between her thumbs, on the inside, and her fingers, on the outside, to compact the clay and enlarge the opening. Because it is a small pot, she makes in on the floor and turns it regularly on its support. Most of the shaping is made by pressing the walls between her fingers but she sometimes draw the outside of the walls to help.
