When the bowl already has a satisfying shape, Y Gah takes a ring (of around 5cm in diameter) made of a thin slice of bamboo , called kong, to scrape the surface, both inside and outside. This action both corrects the shape and evens out the surface. When necessary, she also takes out or adds bits of clay in some parts, to make the rim and foot regular. Finally, when the bowl is done, she uses a wet stick to smooth out the surface as much as possible, making it more even.
