Shaping a cooking pot in Kon Tơ Xing village 1/4 : Shaping the rim

To form the rim, Y Gah makes a coil by pressing clay into her hands. She adds it on top of the preform of the pot and uses her fingers to smooth the junctions between them. She uses scrapes the inside and outside of the voil with her fingertips to give it the shape of the rim. When the rim has the intended shape, she uses a ring of bamboo called kong to scrape the inside and outside. This action both pushes the walls a bit further out and makes the surface of the pot more regular. Finally, she humidifies the surface of the pot with a wet rag and smoothes it using a stick to make the surface even. In the end, she uses the wet rag to perfect the shape of the rim.
