Shaping cooking pots in Buôn Trấp village

H’Loan Bkrong and H’Lân Êban start by kneading and rolling clay on a basket to obtain a compact cytlinder of clay. They places the cylinder on a stand and insert their thumbs in the centre. As they turn around the stand, they presse the edges between their thumbs and fingers to compact the clay and enlarge the opening. When they have created shape of a small bowl, they take more clay and form coils that they add to their shape by pinching it on top of the edges, still turning around the stand. She repeats this with more coils until the pot has the desired height. They repeat it unil the pot has the right height. Then, they use their finger and a bamboo stick to smooth the walls of the pot. Finally, they ue a wet cloth to shape the rim of the pots.
