Nafana traditional door weaver David Katakyie trims strips of hard material from the fibrous part of dried raffia petioles. Sitting a bench, he uses a knife, held at an angle, to strip the inside fibre of long pre-cut raffia slats that rest on his lap. The video shows a close up over artisan's shoulders on the gestures in stripping by using his left hand to pull back the slats while the knife in his right hand glides forward removing fibre. He will use the trimmed strips to weave the male traditional door (janda) for one of the two earthen houses being built at the Banda Cultural Center. Sabiye, Banda District, Ghana.
